Membership Information
The North Carolina Retired Peace Officers Association is a volunteer organization of approximately 5,000 members across the state. Membership is made up of Retired Law Enforcement Officers from Local and State Agencies within the State of North Carolina. We also have a few Federal and Military Law Enforcement Officers who worked in North Carolina or now live in North Carolina.
Membership Classes are:
Charter or Active Members:
  • These are members who are current in their annual membership fee.
  • These members may hold an elected office and vote on officers and other business matters.
New, Non-Assigned, or Associate Members:
  • This is members who are in their first year of membership.
  • These members can up-grade to Active Member at anytime by paying membership fee (No reason to do this but some people just feel like they want to pay from the time they join).
Honorary Members:
  • This is made up of the spouses of deceased Charter / Active Members. The spouse of any member who dies may request to remain a part of the Association as an Honorary Member. This type of membership has no voting power and is a free membership.
Inactive Membership:
  • This is a member who has served as an Active or Charter Member, due to medical reason or other personal issues feel like they can not be active in the Association. We have some people who will go inactive for one or two years and then request to become active again. Inactive members pay no membership fee while on Inactive status and give up all membership rights like voting on Association matters and holding an elected office. Also they will not receive any Association mailings about annual Conferences and would not be able to access the Association Member’s only section of the new Web Page.
The Association works through the legislature to secure better benefits for all retired officers and to preserve the benefits you already have. We constantly monitor legislation that could affect you and do all we can to see you are treated fairly.
There are no medical or death benefits with the Association.
The annual fee goes toward the day to day operation and to fund 4 to 5 College Scholarships for children of a North Carolina Law Enforcement Officer killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty.
We have two conferences each year and they are attended at each member’s own expense. We have a great time at these conferences. Conferences are held at different locations and include not only a business session and banquet, also sometime we have other special events for members and their spouses. Also other family members may attend the conference as you guest. The conferences are twice a year in the Fall (late October of November) and Spring (mid April or May).
There is no charge to you for the first year Associate Membership. The membership dates are form July 1 to June 30 each year. The free membership range is between 10 to 18 months based on the date you join Example: Joining between July 1, - December 31, 2010 will receive free membership to June 30, 2011 and joining January 1, - June 30, 2011 will received free membership to June 30, 2012.
Regular member yearly fee is only $12.00.
The Association has no paid employees.
We need your help, support and membership if we are to be successful.
