Program Requirements for NCRPOA College Scholarship
The North Carolina Retired Peace Offices Association, Inc. has a scholarship program. Listed are the qualifications an applicant must have.
  • You must be the natural or legally adopted child of a North Carolina Law Enforcement Officer who was killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty. Also, a child who’s legal custody was granted by the North Carolina Court System (or another State Court System) prior to the North Carolina Law Enforcement Officer was killed or permanently disabled in the line of duty. Any child that’s legal custody was awarded after the Officer disability is not eligible.
  • You must make your first application before reaching your 20th birthday.
  • Applicant must submit an INTENT TO APPLY FORM by March 1, in order that the Scholarship process can be started by the Association and a pre-approval can be made in April, and if all requirements are met and approved the Scholarship can be granted in May or June.
  • The applicant must have all forms completed and return to the Association by the 1st of May. Applicant must stay in contact with Association Secretary during the application process, in case of problems getting forms completed or submitted on time.
  • Renewal applications must be completed each year and returned by the 1st of May. Applicant must stay in contact with Association Secretary during the application process, in case of problems getting forms completed or submitted on time.
  • At the time you receive the scholarship, you must be enrolled or accepted for admission in a college, vocational training school or have other educational institution approved by the Scholarship Committee of the NCRPOA.
  • You may receive a scholarship of up to $1,500.00 per academic year (total in four year period of no more than $6,000.00). Each application will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee on a year to year basis. A renewal application must be filed each year.
  • The Scholarship Committee may require an interview before the scholarship is awarded.
  • Any illegal or excessive use of drugs or excessive use of alcoholic beverages will be just cause for the scholarship to be revoked. Conviction of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs or any other serious crime shall be just cause for revocation of the scholarship. Applicant will be required to complete a consent form allowing the North Carolina Retired Peace Officers Association to conduct a Criminal Records Check including a Driver Record Check.
  • Applicant must maintain a passing grade point average and furnish proof (transcript) of same at the end of each grading period.
  • You must understand and agree to abide by the requirements set forth in the scholarship.
  • If the scholarship is revoked for any reason forfeit all funds must be repaid to the NCRPOA.
  • Also, you must understand that this grant that would have to repaid if it was found that you committed fraud when applying for same.
  • You must certify that the information reported in this application for scholarship and any and all attachments submitted herewith are true, correct, and complete to the best of my knowledge.
  • You must authorize use of this information by the North Carolina Retired Peace Officer Association, Inc. in whatever way they see fit to verify my application or to obtain additional information pertinent to this application, such as financial records, academic records or criminal records, including driving records.
  • Note: Applicant will be required to complete a consent form allowing the North Carolina Retired Peace Officers Association to conduct a Criminal Records Check including a Driver Record Check.
  • You must authorize the release and exchange of information between the educational institution you are attending or plan to attend and the North Carolina Retired Peace Officers Association, Inc. Also agree that such information exchanged may include financial, enrollment, academic status and such other information as may be necessary to assure proper administration of student scholarship grants by the North Carolina Retired Peace Officers Association, Inc. Scholarship Committee and institutional program administrators.
  • The applicant may use the money where needed (food, books, school Supplies).
  • There are four scholarships awarded each year. Should there be more than four they will be awarded on the basis of need and merit.
  • Applicant must stay in contact with the NCRPOA Secretary/Treasurer during the application process by phone and/or e-mail and all additional paperwork required must be completed and turned by the dead line given.
  • Scholarship Funds will be issued by 1st of August, provided all paperwork is completed and in compliance with all requirements
